Now I can confirm that the pipe of the central heating system through the kang has sprung a leak . The second day after plastering the cleared kang mother found something had got wrong with the facilities when she had lit the stove and heard a loud bubbling sound from the mouth above. Then she stopped adding fuels to the stove. She thought the water in it might have been short. Yesterday when the same thing happened again, I began to fill up the pipe with water. It was strange that the radiators seemed to have been empty for it took me a long time to refill the pipe.

Dense flakes of snow suddenly came down from
the overcast sky and disappeared like spirits when touching the ground .

Soon the snowfall stopped as I predicted. That
was why I hadn’t covered the fuels and vegetables drying outside.

来去匆匆如所料，未遮柴蔬頗自矜。

This was the first time my new bike has been punctured since I bought it five months odd ago. It’s quite commonplace for the tyre to be punctured and get flat from time to time. It’s unpredictable. I’m always watchful on my way when cycling to avoid dangerous things that can prick the tyres. If I had kept away from the doubtful rubbish with a cigarette end dumped on the path, the front tyre would not have caught the screw. Luckily I found the tyre flat just before I left the street behind. So I could go back to the repairer very soon. If getting halfway towards school, I would be in trouble.

Arrived at school just before the starting time of our work. First saw Ms F sweeping with some of her students at the shrubbery in front of the classrooms. Then noticed our principal coming over and asking about me reproachfully. I went to meet him bravely after parking my trike under the willows. Because I had known why he was in a rage with me, I explained to him why I hadn’t done cleaning as demanded. I told him I could remove the rubbish instead of preparing the writing materials if necessary. He wondered if another one could replace me for the writing. My answer was negative.

When I got to school, it had been 9 o’clock. The shower in the early morning delayed my departure for school. As I started, it was drizzling. But it soon turned thick and fast and lasted for quite some time. My clothes and shoes still kept dry under the watery raincoat thanks to the absence of wind. Then the rain subsided again. The lunch consisted of eggs fried with sauce, cooked corn-cobs and potatoes. The cobs were bought at ¥0.40 each rather than picked at the garden. The ears on the stalks are too small and need some time to grow for our eating.

The three-day-long rainy weather has come
to an end. Yesterday evening the weather forecast said it would turn cloudy
after showering. It has really happened as predicted. Last night a heavy shower
came down with claps of thunder. After daybreak it did not rain any more. But the
sky was still overcast and menacing until noon. The dirt path west of our
bungalow was muddy and dotted with puddles. My old bike continued to carry me
to school. At present, it is sunny and windy outside. Large white clouds are
moving west in the bluish sky. It is forecast that tomorrow will be fine. Then my
old bike can be off duty and the new should take its turn.

It has been cloudy, drizzly and sunless for
days on end. The summer heat seems gone and fans are cast aside.
