Today was not as hot as expected. I took some concrete steps to reduce the dominant intense heat. Before breakfast I rode the trike to the flat specially for fetching the electric fan. I opened all the bungalow windows front and back. We did not light the cooking stove for preparing lunch and supper any more. We used the electric cooker instead. Moreover, we ate some green bean cakes as well. We took our supper earlier than usual before dark. We managed to avoid turning on the lights attracting the mosquitoes and other insects. Stayed indoors or in the shade and took a rest when feeling tired. Cancelled all the activities outdoors in the sun.

My terribly aged mother went to the market alone in my absence for purchasing a reel of thread for sewing. When she told me that later, I could not help reproaching her violently for her rashness. I have been urging her again and again not to risk leaving far away from home without my knowledge. She might walk about within sight of our front gate when weather permits. And I stated clearly if necessary I could accompany her to any place where she would like to go. But she was always deaf to my advice. She often expressed that she was sure of herself.

A good day. It was freezing cold early in the morning. I could see ice formed overnight outside and the muddy dirt path had hardened temporarily. But soon after the sunrise the fragile frozen surface of the road melted into a muddy state again. Nevertheless, most parts of the road have turned dry. Both in the flat and our office, I enjoyed the comfortable warmth. On the inner side of the windowpanes at the balconies could be seen tiny drops of water like beads of perspiration every morning after I got up. In fact I feel a little hot indoors sometimes even when dressed in next-to-skin wear at home. The heating supply should be reduced a little in such mild weather to avoid unnecessary waste.

We should encourage people to do their
business without formality as long as they could attain their objectives. In fact,
there is too much formality in everyday life and work. It’s time for us to
quit all formalities for improving the efficiency of our teaching work. The teachers
and the students are required to exchange greetings at the beginning of a class
when the latter have to stand up especially on the occasions when there are
visitors to the lectures. Moreover, the teachers need to announce the opening
of the classes at first and the dismissal by the end. Some courteous teachers also
tell their students to say welcome and farewell to the visitors in time.
