I can still remember my former searches for
sweet potatoes left out in the native harvested fields which were empty and
spacious in late autumn.

It seems that no one doubts the most important thing in life is to keep alive. But in reality most people don’t prize their life, especially the young. They assume that the fatal diseases have nothing to do with them. They overwork for realizing their dreams of being someone. They stay up late or all night entertaining themselves. Some take regular exercise in an attempt to keep fit. But in the meantime they live anxiously in the pressure of competing modern life. The tension and stress almost counteracts the function of the exercise. Their immunity to diseases weakens as time passes. They may fall ill at any time.

Mencius once said one would survive in
adversity and die of a soft life. And there is another saying, to spoil a child
is to kill it. These contentions have proved true even today. Almost every
couple try their best to bring up their only child without grudging any time
and money. They satisfy all of the kid’s requirements as they can. The child is demanded to do nothing but
study. After the child grows up, the parents still provide for his living and
education, later pay the expenses of his marriage and the marital house, and finally
help looking after his child. He may take it for granted that he can always get
help from his parents. Once losing their support, he won’t tackle any problems. It is his parents that have
deprived him of the chances to train himself.

The predicted moderate rain had started when I awoke this morning. I had to give a lesson at the second period. Now that it was seven o’clock and the rain outside didn’t subside. 昔聞洞庭水，今上岳陽樓。
The waters divide the eastern Wu State from
the southern Chu State. The heaven and the earth seem rippling and floating on
the surface day and night.

吴楚東南坼，乾坤日夜浮。

It’s unnecessary to explain the rules and
techniques of writing in particular. It’s enough to expound them briefly. The
teachers may show the students how to write the main strokes. Then let them
repeatedly practice the dot, the horizontal, the vertical, the left-falling
stroke, the right-falling stroke, the turning stroke, the hook stroke. First,
